If you make one apple recipe this fall, let it be this recipe for the Best Apple Cake. This cake is amazing. It is simple, moist and flavorful. It’s filled with sliced fresh apples and dusted with powdered sugar. It’s perfect for dessert or an afternoon snack. You’ll even want to have a slice for breakfast!
My mom has been making this cake for at least twenty years. In the fall, if we have a special dinner or company coming to visit, this is her go to dessert recipe. You make it in a tube pan, which always makes for a pretty presentation on a cake stand. This is one of those cakes that everyone you serve it to will ask you for the recipe!
Making The Best Apple Cake
Preheat the ovent to 350° F and prepare a 10″ tube pan by greasing and flouring.
In a mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder and a 1/2 teaspoon of salt. In a separate bowl, combine 4 eggs, 1 cup of vegetable oil, 1/3 cup of orange juice and 2 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla. Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture and mix well to combine.
Next, peel and slice four medium baking apples. In a medium bowl, combine the apple slices with 2 teaspoons of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar. Toss well to coat the apple slices.
A Tip!
When it comes to baking, you want apples that are both sweet and tart and have a crisp texture. Some of my favorites for baking are Gala, Grannysmith and Honeycrisp. I’m also a fan of combining different types of apples to vary the flavor!
Spread 1/3 of the cake batter into the greased tube pan. Top with half of the apple slices. Add the next 1/3 of the cake batter and place the other half of the apples. Carefully spread the remaining 1/3 of the cake batter on top of the apples.
Bake for 55-65 minutes or until cake tests done. (Test cake by inserting a skewer or knife into center of cake. Cake is done when the skewer comes out clean!) Cool the cake in the pan for 15 minutes before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar. Enjoy!

Oooooo apple cake. What a great recipe for fall. It looks divine! My husband will love it. And that’s so cool that you have recipes that were handed down to you. My mother did not bake so sadly I only have my own. But my grandma did hand a few over to me so it’s not all bad. Thanks for sharing!
