Creamy. Cheesy. Hot off the grill. That’s what these Cheesy Grilled Potato Packets are all about and they are an awesome, easy side dish!
Just like my Grilled Zucchini Tomato Parmesan foil packets, this potato recipe is one my mom has been making since I was a kid. Potatoes are a perfect side dish to grill in foil packets. They become tender and soft with crispy grilled edges. And this recipe adds a little chicken broth, cheese and butter to make the finished potatoes creamy and rich.
Making Cheesy Grilled Potato Packets
First wash and peel 5 medium potatoes and slice them thinly. Thinly slice a medium white onion too. Then place both the potatoes and the onions on large piece of heavy duty foil. Dot with butter and sprinkle with cheddar cheese, salt & pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Fold the foil up around the potatoes, then add chicken broth. Seal the edges of the foil tightly.
A Tip!
I like to use heavy duty foil when cooking on the grill. But if you don’t have any, just use two pieces of regular foil. Doubling up helps to make sure you won’t lose any of the yummy veggies inside due to a foil tear!
Grilling potatoes in foil can take around 30-35 minutes, so I always like to give them a headstart on the grill. Grill over medium heat, and carefully peek inside the packet to check for doneness after 30 minutes. Once potatoes are tender, remove from the grill to a pan or plate, peel back the foil to serve and enjoy!
